Miniatures

Thilo Westermann + Alexander Zakharov

How often do we pause to appreciate the little things? To truly reflect on the beauty in life’s minutiae requires a present state of mind. Sometimes, objects themselves invite this moment of contemplation.  The intricate works of Alexander Zakharov and Thilo Westermann inspire this silence. Each artist, with a distinct style and medium, captures beauty in extraordinary detail. Zakharov’s whimsical, dreamlike compositions—painted on wood panel with a single hair of a brush—transport viewers to fantastical realms. Westermann, in contrast, creates still lives by meticulously etching paint from glass, revealing delicate and precise forms. Though their techniques differ, both artists share a belief: beauty is in the delicacy of form.

Coinciding with Spring, this two-person exhibition hopes to allow visitors moments of quiet reflection as the seasons change.  Consisting of 12 paintings by Alexander Zakharov and 11 works by Thilo Westermann in the gallery’s Salon, the works are presented in an intimate setting that encourages a personal encounter with each piece. We hope that visitors will take time through magnifying lenses to examine the artworks and come away with a renewed sense of wonder.
