Artist Spotlight: Andrew Stevovich

Spring - Summer 2025

Art That aSks Rather than answers

AI Woman, 2024, Oil on linen, 16 x 12 inches

Andrew Stevovich’s works transport viewers into subtly enigmatic worlds—cafés, beaches, trains—populated by still, stylized figures that seem to speak volumes in silence.

Though grounded in modern life, his paintings echo the classical elegance and psychological intrigue of the Renaissance masters he admired as a child while roaming the halls of the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.

A graduate of RISD and MassArt, Stevovich has built a singular career defined by formal precision, radiant color, and a unique emotional distance that invites curiosity rather than conclusion. His distinctive compositions raise more questions than they answer—an intentional choice by the artist to “let the viewer do the interpreting.”

Stevovich has been a cornerstone of Adelson Galleries for over 40 years, with solo exhibitions in New York, Boston, Palm Beach, and beyond. His work resides in major public and private collections and continues to evolve in tone and technique while remaining unmistakably his.

“Obsessed with paring down compositions to their essential elements, Stevovich has a passion for simplicity. At the same time, he's also fascinated by complexity—pattern and repetition—which, by its nature, requires a plethora of shapes or images. His work, therefore, is all about the marriage of these opposites.”
