New Representation: Melissa Calderón

Summer 2025

Melissa in her studio in the South Bronx, New York.

We are thrilled to announce that Adelson Galleries now represents multimedia artist Melissa Calderón.

Melissa’s work is grounded in a deeply personal practice that explores themes of labor, memory, and resilience. Her embroidery-based works reclaim a traditionally domestic, generational skill to create richly layered meditations on Puerto Rican identity, postcolonial histories, and socio-economic structures.

A self-taught artist who cultivated her practice in the South Bronx—what she calls the "Mott Haven Art School"—Calderón has exhibited at major institutions including El Museo del Barrio, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, and The Portland Museum of Art. In 2023, she debuted All the Unheard, a solo micro-retrospective in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This announcement is accompanied by three new works we are proud to present from Melissa’s distinctive embroidery series.
