New York, N.Y. – Warren Adelson, for sixteen years the director of Coe Kerr Gallery, has announced the opening of his own company, Adelson Galleries. The 4,000 square-foot gallery is located on the third floor of the Mark Hotel, at Madison Avenue and 77th Street.
"Adelson Galleries features primarily 19th and 20th century American and European art," Warren said. "However, an important undertaking of ours is also the periodic development of avant-garde exhibitions by young artists."
Inaugural Exhibition: One Hundred Years of American and European Art, the gallery's inaugural exhibition, is being presented from November 1 – December 15, 1990. Spanning a rich period of artistic, social and political development, the exhibition features approximately 45 paintings and sculptures by Josef Albers, Max Beckmann, Alexander Calder, Mary Cassatt, Morris Louis, Aristide Maillol, Amedeo Modigliani, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Susan Rothenberg and many others.
John Singer Sargent's 1886 painting, "Garden Study with Lucia and Kate Millet," is being exhibited for the first time. George Bellow's 1910 "Polo Game," which has not been publicly shown since 1911, is also included in the exhibition.
