Permanent Installation in Pereira, Colombia
“I am very happy and proud to present my sculpture of a Spectacled Bear, an endangered animal that is a symbol of the city of Pereira. The monumental sculpture has been installed in the Parco de la Paz in Pereira that will open in the next weeks, and will be part of the public art heritage of the people of Pereira. The nearly 300,000 rifle cartridges that were used in its construction were donated by the Ministry of Defense. The sculpture weighs 7 tons and stands 5 meters tall, including the pedestal. I hope this will be an opportunity to celebrate peace through beauty. Thank you to the City of Pereira and the Mayor Juan Pablo Gallo, to the Ministry of Defense, to Hernando Hoyos and Rosa Angel, and everyone else who contributed to this beautiful project. And a special thank you to the workers who helped to build the sculpture.”
